The building that houses Mountain Sage is my great grandmother’s house, Jacunda Laveroni. She lived here with my great grandfather, Jacobe Laveroni starting in 1877. They farmed the land, made their own clothes, and contributed much to the community of Groveland.  My grandfather, George Laveroni, was born in the photogallery a room he called home until he met my grandmother Mary Webb Laveroni in 1934. They married, and moved into the green house across the creek. This is where my father, Gary, spent his youth. He tells of taking winter naps in the middle of highway 120 with his dog, Gypsy, and driving logging trucks down an unpaved Priest Grade.

Once Jacunda passed away, my great Aunt Bernice, her daughter, lived here with her husband Klem. They raised thousands of chickens to supply eggs for Save Mart in the area that is now the garden nursery. Aunt Bernice’s room was the book nook, the little closet held her gold coins. The Laveroni’s were great cooks and always had a full orch of people over for dinner. My fondest memories of Grandpa and Aunt Bernice were in this house, with the grapes hanging heavy outside the porch and ravioli cooking in the kitchen. The kitchen was in the coffee area, and all the fresh ravioli were made in the Map Room. Old timers of the Groveland area talk of how Jacunda always had dinner out on the porch, and invited friends walking by to come up and join the supper.

Please, take a stroll through the house and soak up the welcoming spirit of the Laveroni’s. Guests were always welcome in the house, and always will be.
